Midland Power Station

The Midland Power Station (MPS) is a project conceived and developed by Cirque Energy.  The MPS will provide all of the steam requirements and nearly of the electrical energy required for the Dow Corning Corporation Midland Plant Site in Midland, Michigan.

MPS has partnered with VC Energy for the construction and operation of the MPS.  The project received all necessary permits for construction in 2011. Construction will tentatively commence in spring 2012, scheduled to be complete and placed in service by late 2013.

The proposed MPS will be a nominal 675 MMBTU/hour facility with the capability of generating up to 35-megawatts (MW) of electrical energy. In addition, up to 250,000 pounds per hour of low-pressure steam will be provided to the Dow Corning Midland Plant for use in process and building heating. The steam provided by MPS will relegate the existing Dow Corning natural gas boilers to a back-up status. In addition, the green electricity provided to Dow Corning will offset virtually all of their existing fossil fuel grid electrical energy purchases. The MPS will be located on approximately 30 acres of property in southeast Midland that Cirque Energy will lease from Dow Corning.

The Midland project will be capable of utilizing a diverse biomass fuel supply.  The project team includes a strategic partner actively engaged in the forest products industry in central and northern Lower Michigan that has committed to provide a long-term, sustainable supply of biomass for the Midland project.
